Don’t Leave Your Friends Behind
(Joshua 1:14-18; Joshua 2:1-9)
Some of the families in this story had already found their “forever homes.” They were safe, settled, and could have easily stayed put. But Joshua reminded them of a big truth: just because you are okay doesn’t mean the job is done. They had to leave their comfort zone and cross the river to help their neighbors win their battles, too.
It’s a great reminder for us. It’s tempting to pull back once our own lives are going well, but we have a responsibility to show up for the people around us who are still struggling. True success isn’t just winning for yourself; it’s making sure everyone makes it across the finish line.
God Works in Unexpected Places
When the spies went into Jericho, they didn’t find help at a palace or a temple. They found it in the house of Rahab, someone the “religious” world would have completely written off. Rahab had heard stories about what God was doing, and she was smart enough to know that the old walls she lived in weren’t going to save her.
She took a huge risk to help the spies because she recognized that God was on the move. Her story shows us that God doesn’t care about your past or your labels; He cares about your willingness to trust Him right now. Sometimes, the help you need comes from the most unlikely person or place.
Things to Remember Today
Look Out for Others: If you’re in a good spot today, look around. Who do you know that’s still “in the fight”? A little support goes a long way.
The Big Picture: The problems we face (our “Jerichos”) usually aren’t as scary as they look. Often, the obstacles in front of us are already losing their power because God has gone ahead of us.
Just Start: You don’t need a perfect plan. Rahab just did the next right thing. Sometimes faith is just taking that one brave step when you’re nervous.
Think about your own “river” today. Is there a reason you’re staying on the safe side when you know you should be helping someone else? Or maybe you feel like an outsider, like Rahab did. Remember that God doesn’t look at your resume; He looks at your heart.
Today, try to be the person who shows up for others. Whether it’s a kind word, a helping hand, or just standing by a friend, remember that we finish the journey together. Don’t let your comfort keep you from your calling.
